1: National Day (3 days off)

2-4: Tasting New Rice Festival, observed by many ethnic minorities in southwest China in the eighth or ninth month, depending upon the harvest. The Va people celebrate it from the 14th to 16th day of the 8th lunar month with song and dance performances and gatherings to taste the newly harvested rice.

3: Mid-Autumn Festival (15th of the 8th lunar month). A traditional time of family reunion, celebrated by eating mooncakes and enjoying the full moon. (1 day off)

4: World Animal Day.

5: World Teachers' Day

5: World Habitat Day, observed on the first Monday of October.

8: National Hypertension Day.

9: World Post Day.

10: World Mental Health Day.

14: World Standards Day.

15: White Cane Safety Day.

16: World Food Day, declared by the UN General Assembly, aims to heighten public awareness of world food problems and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

17: International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, declared by the UN General Assembly, aims to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries, particularly in developing countries. The major NGOs and campaigning organizations involved in poverty and development issues are listed; many have educational sections.

22: World Traditional Medicine Day.

24: United Nations Day, marks the anniversary of the launch of the United Nations Charter in 1945.

26. Double Ninth Festival (9th of the 9th lunar month). Celebrated by honoring the elderly and climbing hills and mountains to enjoy nature.
