British business delegation explores Luohu's life and health innovation

On May 29, a delegation of British entrepreneurs led by CodeBase—Scotland’s largest tech incubator—visited Luohu District, Shenzhen, marking the incubator's first-ever business delegation to China. The visit focused on opportunities in the life and health industries, reinforcing a growing two-way exchange between the two sides.

This visit follows Luohu’s economic and trade mission to the UK earlier this year. Just two months later, the British delegation—which includes companies in biopharmaceuticals and digital healthcare—made a proactive return visit, showing strong interest in Luohu’s international business environment.

The delegation began its visit at the China-Europe Center for Innovative Medicine and Health, jointly established by the Luohu District Government and the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2023. As a key platform supporting Shenzhen’s "20+8" strategic health industry clusters, the center has focused its research and development on advanced therapies, digital health, and longevity medicine. The delegation toured its shared laboratories and incubation facilities while learning about its innovation achievements and international collaborations.

Following the visit, representatives from the Shenzhen Investment Promotion Agency, Luohu Investment Promotion Bureau, and Luohu Hospital Group held a roundtable meeting with the delegation to discuss concrete cooperation opportunities.

Luohu introduced its fast-growing life and health industry, which achieved an output value exceeding 12 billion yuan in 2024—maintaining double-digit growth. The district now hosts 106 major enterprises, and supports over 2,000 upstream and downstream businesses. By 2025, the output is expected to surpass 14 billion yuan with more than 130 large-scale enterprises.

To accelerate the sector’s growth, Luohu has set up a dedicated task force for the life and health industry. The district offers strong support in terms of policy incentives, capital, space, land supply, and real-world application scenarios to help enterprises grow and scale.

As an innovation engine in Scotland, CodeBase brought with it a clear goal: to explore cooperation in clinical research and tech commercialization with Luohu institutions, and to enter the Chinese market. Companies showed strong interest in market access, application scenarios, and business partnerships.

In response, Luohu coordinated resources from the China-Europe Center, Luohu Hospital Group, and relevant industry associations to connect the British companies with early-stage clinical collaboration opportunities and potential investors. Delegation members praised Luohu's efficient services and open attitude.

Beyond market potential, what these British visitors witnessed was Luohu's deep commitment to high-quality development driven by openness and innovation. Foreign businesses aren’t just seeing cost advantages—they're discovering an innovation ecosystem where they can grow together with the city.

Luohu is adopting a "partner" mindset in its investment promotion strategy, actively welcoming outstanding domestic and international companies to make Luohu their home for long-term development.
