Editor's note: Zhang Yonghe, executive dean of the Human Rights Institute at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, delivered a keynote speech at an academic seminar titled "Chinese Modernization and Human Rights Protection" in Jinan, Shandong province, on Sept. 16.
Through accessible and compelling case studies, Zhang vividly illustrated the advancements in technology and achievements in human rights protection in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The seminar was hosted by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, and co-organized by the Center for Human Rights Studies at Shandong University and the university's law school.
