Chinese film artist Gu Yelu passed away earlier Wednesday, December 23, at the age of 93 following treatment in a Shanghai hospital, sina.com report.
As a representative of "Solitary Island" period, a special time of Chinese filmmaking in wartime Shanghai during the 1937-1941, Gu Yelu has performed in more than one hundred films such as "Fishing House women" (yu jia nv), "The Butterfly Lovers" (Liang Shan Bo Yu Zhu Ying Tai) and "The Letter with Feathers" (Ji Mao Xin) in his 70 year long screen career.
He was granted excellent artist title in 2005, the 100th anniversary of the Chinese film industry.
Gu Yelu was born in 1916, Jiangsu. Though not tall he is, Gu was cast in many films costarring Chinese most popular stars like Zhou Xuan and Li Lihua in the 1930s and was hailed as "Short young handsome man on screen."
