Renowned Italian operatic baritone Leo Nucci will perform "Rigoletto" at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) from August 25 to 28 in Beijing.

This will be the third stage pose for Nucci in Beijing since his debut in 2009 and a second performance in 2010. Both shows were warmly received by audiences in Beijing.

This year, famous Chinese baritone Yuan Chenye and soprano Yao Hong will join their performances with Nucci. Yuan and Yao gained their reputation by playing roles of Rigoletto and his daughter Gilda respectively.

At a rehearsal on Thursday, Yuan said he has played the role of Rigoletto for 10 years. And every time he plays the character, he has tried to add new flavors to the role. This year, audiences can also find new details in the performance that can help more thoroughly represent the character's fate in the opera.

The opera was jointly produced in June 2009 and presented by Teatro Regio di Parma of Italy and China's NCPA. Internationally recognized theatrical director Stefano Vizioli will direct the performance.

Originally created in 1851, opera Rigoletto is one of the masterpieces of Italian master of opera Giusepe Verdi. Rigoletto, La Traviata and Troubadour are three works that defined the middle phase of his career. The opera has been played for over a century with great reception throughout the world. The script of the opera Rigoletto is adapted from Victor Hugo's drama.
