Enjoying the fun of childhood in snow

Before I retired from a military hospital in the 1990s, I knew almost nothing about photography. After joining photography classes held by a military college for the elderly, I immediately became enthralled, and soon later joined the China Senior Photographers Association. For the last twenty years, I have explored the visual world through my camera lens.

It's common for retirees who leave the work force to feel lonely and bored; however, since I discovered photography my life has become more colorful. Now 77, I still go out to hike and take photos with friends twice every week. We explore the suburbs surrounding Beijing and also sometimes organize photography trips further afield.

At my age, trekking around is not easy, but I'm still enthusiastic about it. When I take photos, I feel like I have the strong passions of a young girl. Each time I go out to take photos, it's like a new quest to explore beauty and lose myself in stunning scenery. I want to find beauty, record beauty, feel beauty and create beauty with my camera. Photographing helps me to forget my troubles and communicate with nature. I also like editing my photos because it allows me to artistically reconstruct the beauty I find in the world.

In my later years, photography has significantly contributed to my health and happiness. You could even say it saved my life. To date, I have taken over ten thousand photos, and I plan on taking pictures as long as physical condition allows.
