The preliminary success of "Madam Butterfly" in Beijing reflects the currently booming 3D film market in China, a country where 3D cinemas far outnumber those in the Europe and the United States. James Cameron's "Avatar" is widely regarded as the catalyst that boosted the latest wave of 3D craze worldwide. His remake of "Titanic" in 3D, again, is enchanting the world in the same way that the original did in 1997.

Current debates on 3D films are mostly concerned with the brightness disadvantage. The polarized light to produce stereoscopic image, would cause significant light loss, said Edman Chan, RealD's General Manager of Greater China, SE. Asia and Korea. RealD is behind "Madame Butterfly" 3D and the company's leading technology has made its 3D film skills dwarf all others combined in the market.
