An international book fair opened here Thursday, drawing participants from some 40 countries.
With Angola being the guest country, it was the first time for the International Book Fair Cuba to be dedicated to an African nation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Angolan Culture Minister Rosa Maria Da Cruz thanked Cuba for providing the opportunity to translate into Spanish 18 books of the most significant writers of her country.
The event took place at the old Spanish fortress of San Carlos de La Cabana on the left side of the Havana Bay. After 10 days in Havana, it will travel throughout the island country until March 10.
The book fair is one of the premier cultural events in Cuba. Initiated in 1982, it has taken place annually since 2000.
