The final of Voice of the Southern, a singing competition aimed at picking up talented amateur Chinese singers in southern United States, was held Saturday in the fourth largest U.S. city of Houston.
Eleven contestants competed in Saturday's final broadcast live by Southern Chinese Daily News, a Houston-based Chinese news organization that co-sponsored the event with a number of local Chinese organizations.
Eleven-year-old Crystal Wang, the youngest among the finalists, won the top prize.
The competition was aimed at spreading Chinese culture abroad and giving ordinary people, especially overseas Chinese, a chance to realize their music dream, said Lee Wea Hwa, owner of Southern Chinese Daily News.
The organizers said they will recommend the champion for appearance in a major TV show in China.
