The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced on Saturday that all its members are eligible to vote in two Academy Awards categories in a bid to boost membership's participation in all aspects of events.

The AMPAS members will automatically be eligible to vote in all 24 Oscar categories including the nominated documentary shorts and foreign language films, according to a plan which was adopted by the Board of Governors at an unusual, first-ever general meeting.

The gathering took place Saturday at simultaneous sessions in Beverly Hills, New York and Emeryville, Calif.

"This change continues our efforts to expand our members' participation in all aspects of the Academy's activities including, of course, voting for the Oscars," said AMPAS President Hawk Koch. "Building on this past season's 90 percent record voter turnout, we want to give our members as many opportunities as possible to see these great films and vote in these categories next year."

Under new procedures, the Academy will provide members with DVDs of the nominated films as it now also does in the documentary feature, animated short film and live action short film categories.

In previous years, members had to see the foreign language films and documentary shorts in a theatrical setting to be eligible to vote in the final round of balloting, according to the unrevised rule.

The nomination processes for all categories remain unchanged.

The 86th annual Academy Awards will be presented March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center.
