In a new Instagram post on Wednesday evening, the 20-year-old singer said he asked his driver to pull over at what he thought was a beautiful shrine.

"I was mislead [sic] to think the Shrines were only a place of prayer. To anyone I have offended I am extremely sorry," the post said.

"I love you China and I love you Japan," it ended.

The photo on his Instagram account, which was subsequently removed, showed Bieber praying outdoors at the shrine and standing beside a Shinto priest.
