The Norwegian children's book writer Endre Lund Eriksen and illustrator Endre Skandfer met fans of their popular work "The Monsters of Dunderly" in a local children's library during their visit to Beijing on August 26, 2014.

Writer Eriksen vividly read the book's stories of Modika, Buster, Moy and other monsters aloud to little Chinese readers, while illustrator Skandfer displayed the sketches and final images of the monsters. These monsters have different personalities and live far away from people, high up in the mountains in a place called Dunderly.

Skandfer also drew a sketch of a new monster based on the imaginative on- the-spot suggestions of their little fans. He said that this image will be reserved for future characters. The two creators shared their thoughts on how and why they created these loveable monsters and answered various questions from their fans.

According to Eriksen, he wants to create a universe with room for lots of different types of monsters (or people) and tell children to be themselves through the stories of those monsters.

Skandfer hopes children can have as much fun with the monsters of Dunderly as he had creating them. He also said that he got a lot of inspiration from his own daughters.

"The Monsters of Dunderly" series is targeted to children 5 –10 years old. Four of the books have been translated into Chinese and were published by Tsinghua University Press in July, 2013. The press will publish more books from the series in the next year.

The Beijing visit of the two creators is co-organized by Tsinghua University Press and the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing. Eriksen and Skandfer will also meet local fans at Peekabook House and SDX Joint Publishing Company in the next few days.
