George Clooney has married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin on Saturday, his representative confirmed in a statement. The pair wed in a private ceremony in front of friends and family at the Aman Canal Grande hotel in Venice, Italy.

The one-line statement from Clooney's long-time representative Stan Rosenfield is expected to be the only communication on the much-anticipated marriage of the actor who long reigned as Hollywood's most-eligible bachelor.

Celebrities, paparazzi and the world's media have been congregating in Venice for the widely anticipated nuptials.

Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, who were engaged in April, have not publicly divulged details of the weekend-long celebrations — leaving plenty open to speculation.
