Singapore's award winning director Anthony Chan will be executive producer for Distance, a new film starring actor Bolin Chen from China's Taiwan, he said on Friday.

The film comprising three stories and exploring the theme of love, family and friendship will be shot in China, Singapore and Thailand, Chan told a press conference in Singapore.

"We want to challenge our audience on how they define relationship, the distance between human beings, or their emotions, like how do you really define being a dad, a lover or a friend," he said.

Chan, 30, has won numerous awards over the past two years with his film Ilo Ilo, which tells of the story of a boy in a Singaporean family and their maid.

He will be executive producer instead of director this time as he is now based in London and has been kept busy working on films there.

The new film will involve three young directors including Xin Yukun from China, Tan Shijie from Singapore and Sivaroj Kongsakul from Thailand.

All three as well as Chan and the lead actor were born in the 1980s.
