Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has recently announced a three-year collaboration with the China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC) to produce content related to China and the launch of its dedicated programming block, “Hour China.”

“Hour China” will air weekly on Discovery Channel across Asia-Pacific, reaching more than 90 million viewers in 37 countries and territories.

It will launch on March 28 with “How China Works,” a three-episode series produced in collaboration with CICC. It marks the first time an international media company has launched a dedicated programming block of this scale dedicated solely to China.

According to Enrique R. Martinez, acting president and managing director of Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, China is a land filled with incredible history and culture, while also being at the forefront of many modern advancements.

“We are honored to expand our cooperation with CICC to capture China’s many intriguing stories — from traditions to technology — providing the world with a window to China and showcasing the best of what the country has to offer,” he says.

Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has been collaborating with CICC since 2004. In 2010, the two parties launched China Imagica, an initiative where Discovery’s award-winning producers along with world-renowned film makers conducted talks and workshops to provide guidance to local talents.

Over the past 11 years, Discovery and CICC have produced over 65 hours of China-related programing, such as “China’s Man Made Marvels,” “Ultimate Olympics” and “Invite Mr Wright: China.”

“How China Works,” to be debuted on its website (www.discoverychannelasia.com) from March 28 to 30, focuses on the great changes in urbanization, technological innovation and society. The series is hosted by American TV presenter, producer, and architect Danny Forster, who presented Discovery’s “Extreme Engineering.”

In each episode, Forster will travel across China to reveal the country’s ambitious mega-projects and highlight the technological innovations that make them so revolutionary. He also journeys across China to explore how a rapidly growing and increasingly affluent middle class is transforming society.

He visits a group of scientists attempting to create life-prolonging noodles, and then joins the cast of a Chinese soap opera at a large outdoor film studio and checks out the mega malls catering to millions with new money to spend.

The series will help redefine how the world views the increasingly urbanized China. It will also be broadcast on Discovery’s networks in several international markets between March and May.
