The film walked away with three major awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress.

Accepting the award for Best Film, Chan expressed his gratitude to moviegoers in China.

"Thank you Huading Awards. I really need to thank the Chinese moviegoers. Because of them, we are given wonderful opportunities to make films."

In Chan's award-winning film, lead actress Zhao Wei's riveting performance won her the Best Actress Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards earlier in April.

On stage, Zhao thanked her director for his vision.

"The person I need to thank the most is of course my dearest director, Peter Chan. Thank you Peter Chan for giving me such a complex character, and a rare opportunity to play someone based on a true story."

Taiwan actor Mark Chao won for his portrayal of a cop in action film "Black & White: The Dawn of Justice."

Established in 2007, the Huading Awards recognizes excellence in television, films, music and dance here in China.
