Singapore's Minister of State Sam Tan said the Wu Guanzhong and Chua Ey Kay exhibitions will help Singaporeans better understand history as well as Singapore's unique cultural identity amidst the diversity of Southeast Asia and the world.
"The more we learn about arts, the more we learn about ourselves, and the more we learn about the world that we lived in," said Sam Tan.
"I hope the exhibition would serve as a catalyst for spirited discussions about Chinese art and increasing awareness of the legacies of both artists."
Eugene Tan echoed with what the minister said "With the launch of the galleries, we hope to inspire all visitors to develop or strengthen their passion for art, a most fitting tribute to Wu Guanzhong and Chua Ek Kay, two of the most important cultural icons of our time."
National Gallery Singapore opened its door to the public on Tuesday after Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officated the opening ceremony on Monday evening.
