Zhengzhou, capital city of central China's Henan Province, announced it would spend 9.5 billion yuan (1.4 billion U.S. dollars) from 2017 to 2020 to build 75 protected parks, which will better protect historical relics across the city.

The 75 parks include a plantation area of 33 million square meters.

Construction of 17 parks will start in 2017.

The ecological and cultural parks are conducive to improving the eco-environment and expanding leisure space of citizens, according to an official with the city's administration of cultural heritage.

Zhengzhou is one of the eight ancient capitals in China, with more than 10,000 historical sites. Six great ruins in the city are on the country's key protection list, ranking the city first in China.
