Taiwan's most famous TV host Kevin Tsai returned to what he had originally wanted for in his career -- to be a filmmaker -- by making a feature called "Didi's Dreams."

In 1990, Tsai graduated from UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and moved back to Taiwan. He began working as a film producer, screenplay writer and film critic. He started to host TV shows in 1996 and in 2004, Tsai was joined by his fellow hostess Dee Hsu in hosting the variety-comedy talk show "Kangsi Coming" until 2016 and his popularity skyrocketed from his style and banter.

But creating a movie was a longtime dream of Tsai, and he returned to his original starting point by making use of the knowledge he learned at UCLA. He recruited his longtime partner Hsu, Lin Chi-Ling as well as other actors Kingscar Jin, Li Zifeng, and Hank Chen to star in his directorial debut, "Didi's Dreams."

The film is about a lesser famed starlet Didi trying to prove herself before her superstar sister. While in her dream Didi is a female boss Xu Chunmei, who owns a noodle shop and got dumped by the boy she had fancied forever.

Tsai said, at a press conference held in Beijing yesterday that the reason why he painfully ended the talk show "Kangsi Coming" is to do something different in his life, which is doing films. He assured audiences the film would present a different Hsu to the world. He also looked back at the show he had been doing for more than a decade with a video footage and stressed the film is actually a special gift for fans who have been supporting the TV shows for years.

"Didi's Dream" is set for release in China on May 27, 2017.
