As Chinese blockbuster "Wolf Warrior 2" continues to dominate for weeks the domestic market in the absence of clear rivals, several critically-acclaimed Hollywood films will creep back to Chinese theaters soon, starting with Edgar Wright's "Baby Driver."

The director and the young actor Ansel Elgort were both in China on Wednesday to promote the heavily music-driven stylish, bandit car-chasing action flick. It is a story of a talented, young getaway driver (Elgort) who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

On renowned review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 94 percent based on 265 reviews, with an average rating of 8/10. Before it opens in China on Aug. 25, it has already grossed US$166.8 million worldwide as of Aug. 13.

Set to open on the same day in China is Luc Besson's special effects-filled "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" as well as Disney/Pixar's acclaimed "Cars 3." The double Oscar winning drama "Manchester by the Sea" directed by Kenneth Lonergan, will only be released in Chinese art-house theaters later in the year.

On Sept. 1, another critically acclaimed war epic "Dunkirk" will open in China and the director Christopher Nolan will come to China to promote the film on Aug. 21. On Sept. 8, the widely praised and box office triumph, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" by Jon Watts will open in China, followed by another highly praised sci-fi blockbuster "War for the Planet of the Apes" by Matt Reeves.

Until China's National Day holiday season starts on Oct 1, these Hollywood films could dominate the Chinese market for over a month in the absence of strong domestic productions. There are several big movies awaiting, including Feng Xiaogang's drama "Youth," Li Chen's "Sky Hunters" starring Fan Bingbing, Martin Campbell's "The Foreigner" starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan, and Da Peng's music comedy "City of Rock."
