Poets from over 30 countries will gather in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province for an international poetry week in September.

According to Chengdu federation of literary and art circles, the festival will last from Sept. 12 to 16, and will attract 38 foreign poets from 32 countries including the United States, Britain, Russia and Italy, and 52 Chinese poets, poem critics and translators.

The event, jointly hosted by the federation and Chengdu culture, radio and TV, press and publication bureau, will feature activities such as poetry reading, themed forums, poetry writing and artistic performances.

Organizing committee head Liang Ping said, "We want to rediscover Chengdu's cultural identity through poetry, and build the poetry week into a brand activity with international influence."

The festival will become a biennial event, and the second one is expected to be held in 2019.
