China's best-selling writer and film director Guo Jingming hit back with a libel complaint against the alleged victim accusing him of sexual molestation.

The accuser, Li Feng, a writer signed with Guo's company, said in an online post on his own Sina Weibo microblog that Guo had engaged in sexual harassment and sexual abuse against him.

"He has often sexually harassed and sexually assaulted male writers who have signed up with his company as well as the male employees in his company."

Li said he knew there are at least five people, and "I'm not sure if there aren't more."

His post immediately triggered uproar on the Internet and was read more than 20 million times, while Guo responded to Li's accusations via his Weibo account, claiming that they were totally false and he had already asked his lawyer to deal with it.

Before Li took any legal action, Guo's attorneys have filed a criminal complaint of libel against him on Wednesday at a local court in Beijing, according to sources close to Guo's team. The complaint said Li had fabricated the story and seriously defamed Guo's reputation, and should be sentenced to a three-year prison term according to the law. The legal team of Guo has been obtaining relevant evidence ever since Li published his post.

When reached by the media, Li said he shut down his mobile phone for a day to ease his emotional stress. He said Guo's lawyers had not yet contacted him, but he was adamant his accusation involved no bad motivation.

"I thought about it for years and I think I have to do this to protect those who don't know Guo. This is what I must do."

However, he said that, other than publishing a post, he felt helpless, "I consulted a lawyer who said that homosexual crimes still constituted unknown territory in China's current laws, and it is difficult to obtain evidence for them," Li said in his Monday post.
