One language – Esperanto

This year marks the 130th anniversary of the creation of Esperanto, an international language and the most widely spoken constructed language in the world, as well as the 100th anniversary of the passing of its creator.

The Polish-Jewish ophthalmologist Zamenhof looked forward to seeing "all nations united in a common brotherhood" through his linguistic creation. In the past 130 years, Esperanto has lived up the expectations of its creator, and made great contributions to friendly relations among countries and peoples.

Two cities – Warsaw and Tai'erzhuang

The friendship between Warsaw in Poland, where Zamenhof lived for much of his life, and Tai'erzhuang, an ancient city of Shandong Province, is a testimony of the contributions of Esperanto. Linked by the international language, these two cities have established sisterly relations in recent years.

A similar history makes relations even closer. Both cities were devastated during the World War II, but their citizenry rose against aggression with the same tenacious spirit. With the rebuilding after the war, the two cities also demonstrated new vitality.
