Hurricane Irma and Matt Lauer were among the top ten searches on Google this year, as Google Trends revealed.

The Hurricane, which slammed into the Florida coast in the United States in September as a Category 4 hurricane, was one of several extreme weather events in the U.S. this year.

The natural disaster trended to the top of Google searches in 2017.

Matt Lauer, the longtime "Today" show host, was fired last month by NBC news for improper sexual behavior in the workplace. He topped Google's ranking of people searches.

Following him were Prince Harry's fiancé Meghan Markle, Nadia Toffa, an Italian television personality who reported a nuclear experiment that did not happen, and Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, both stuck in sexual harassment scandals.

As for top trended global news, Hurricane Irma, Bitcion and Las Vegas shooting were the top three.

For the year, the most popular movies searched on Google were IT, Wonder Woman, Beauty and the Beast, Logan, and Justice League.

Among all the elections carried out this year, French election drew most attention. German federal election and UK election came after it.
