9 cultural ranking lists announced at cross-year ceremony

A grand cultural awards ceremony hosted by the Communication University of China (CUC)was staged on New Year's Eve. Nine lists of award-winning excellence in regard to cultural innovation were released, based on two months of online voting and expert evaluation, covering important aspects in cultural development.

Beijing's Chaoyang District, Tianjin's Hexi District, Chongqing's Nan'an District and another seven Chinese cities won Academy Awards for the Most Culturally-competitive Cities (Districts) in 2017. 


The Grand Canal in Liaocheng City (Shandong Province), Tai'erzhuang Ancient Town (Shandong Province) and Qi Feng Gu Yuan (Kaifeng City, Henan Province) were among the Academy Awards for Special Items in the Chinese Grand Canal Cultural Region in 2017. 


Knowledge Payment, Digital Reading, Music and Social Contact were the top "Hot Words in 2017" along with seven others.


The other six ranking lists were Academy Awards for China Cultural Figure of the Year in 2017, Academy Awards for Internet Writers in 2017, Academy Awards for the Best Projects of Traditional Crafts Revitalization in 2017, Academy Awards for the Most Cutting-Edge Cultural Technology Products in 2017, Academy Awards for Charming Towns with the Highest Cultural Value in 2017, and Academy Awards for Cultural Industrial Parks in2017.


The gala event "Cultural Strength in the New Era: The Academy Awards Ceremony of the Chinese Cultural Industries," the second of its kind, was live-streamed for four straight hours through the last day of 2017 and the first day of 2018. It is the only domestic cross-year celebration of China's cultural industries. 


The event was co-sponsored by top think tanks and 15 well-known universities including Tsinghua University and Peking University. The whole event was translated into English, French, Spanish and Arabic, which conveyed a "sincere Chinese voice" and Chinese culture to the world. 


Dan Zeng, vice president of the China Writers Association, cultural scholars Fan Zhou and Meng Man, a writer of network literature Tang Jiasanshao, caricaturist Cai Zhizhong, and other celebrities from various parts of the cultural industry, leaders of well-known cultural enterprises, as well as key industrial and academic stakeholders, commented on the hottest cultural topics of 2017 before looking ahead to 2018.
