From May 18th to 25th, the Bolshoi Ballet will visit the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing to deliver a ballet feast for audiences with its full-length Le Corsaire and The Flames of Paris.

Le Corsaire, to be staged from May 18th to 20th, will attract audiences with its sprightly and changeful structure; especially the section "Zakharova and Shipulina," with more than 60 performers and lasting over 20 minutes, is rare in group ballet for its large number of dancers, rich structure and varied formations.

From May 22nd to 25th, the Bolshoi will play The Flame of Paris, a master work about the French Revolution in 1792, premiered by the Leningrad Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in 1932.

The play becomes more dense and intricate by cutting to two acts from the previous four. A new role, Adeline, the daughter of a noble family who gets escorted to the guillotine, is added to present a new perspective of the French Revolution.

Founded in 1776, the Bolshoi Theatre is the main national theatre of Russia. The Bolshoi Ballet has gained worldwide reputation with its classical ballet performances, such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, and Romeo and Juliet.
