Students from five American high schools presented Chinese art performances Saturday night in Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S., showing their great passion for Chinese culture.

The show, themed East Meets West, was organized by North Houston Chinese Association (NHCA). Featuring dragon dance, traditional Chinese instruments performance, Chinese opera, costumes show and others, the performances received cheers and acclamation from the audience.

Using both English and Chinese, show hosts briefly introduced the Chinese history and culture to the audience.

Singing a famous Chinese folk song "Nan Ni Wan" in fluent Chinese, Kristi Cobb was highly welcome by the audience. Cobb told Xinhua that culture events are perfect opportunities for Americans to learn and understand China.

"It seems that many American people can learn about the Chinese people and their culture. Through these kind of programs wen can make more friends and share more love," she said.

Founded in 2009, NHCA provided a platform for cultural exchange and social gathering, seeking to promote Chinese culture and enriching the life of Chinese Americans in the community and beyond.
