Radio and television as well as Internet audio and video arts should say no to over-entertainment and high paychecks, but instead focus more on the display of ordinary people's lives, according to Nie Chenxi, head of the national TV regulator.

At a national conference held earlier this week, Nie stressed adherence to social responsibility and continuous prioritization of social interests.

"The spirit of contemporary Chinese people should be vividly displayed, alongside daily stories of members of the public in the new era, preserving a colorful image log of ordinary people pursuing their Chinese dreams and creating a better life," Nie said.

He also pledged no mercy to unscrupulous programs and actors with moral taints.
