Romantic film 'More than Blue' leads China's box office

Romantic film "More than Blue" directed by Gavin Lin remained the highest grossing film on the Chinese mainland in the week ending March 24, China Film News reported Tuesday.

The film, which has grossed about 806 million yuan (120.2 million U.S. dollars) since hitting theaters on March 14, tells the story of a boy who suffers from a terminal disease and tries to secure the happiness of a loved one after his death.

Marvel blockbuster "Captain Marvel" took second place by earning 97 million yuan last week, taking its total box office revenue to 981 million yuan, the highest in the top five.

Coming in third was "Song of Youth," a nostalgic Chinese movie featuring stories at a middle school in the 1980s. Its box office revenue has reached 85 million yuan since hitting theaters on March 22.

Next on the list was the 2019 Academy Award winner for Best Picture "Green Book." Pocketing 49 million yuan last week, its box office revenue has reached 455 million yuan in total.

Rounding out of the weekly top five was "Bohemian Rhapsody," a biopic of Freddie Mercury, which was a big winner at the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony, taking home four statuettes. It has generated over 44 million yuan since hitting Chinese screens.
