The Film Carnival of the 9th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) opened on April 14 at the Film & Television Industry Park in Beijing's Huairou district, attracting well-known filmmakers, directors, and actors, as well as a huge number of visitors.

Hosted by the BJIFF organizing committee, and co-organized by Beijing TV Station and the Huairou district government, the carnival is a major film event for the general public, with six categories covering film technologies, film-inspired cuisines, and other themes.

A total of 27 activities will be rolled out during the carnival, including film screenings, movie-themed concerts and exhibitions, cosplays, and VR films.

"This is my third year to visit the carnival event," said Xiao Hongcheng, a first grader at a primary school in Huairou, who said he loved the 4D photography area in the carnival.

Another carnival visitor, a fourth grader named Li Xiaoxi, said she enjoyed the treasure-hunting activity the most, and that she had participated in the carnival for about four or five years.

At the carnival, visitors also have the chance to act in a play. Zhang Jiang, a college student from Beijing Geely University, cosplayed as the monkey in the 1995 film "A Chinese Odyssey" and tried out one of the movie's most classic scenes. "This was my first time doing this and it was quite an experience," Zhang said.

The film carnival will run for 19 days from April 14 to May 4, with closing days on April 20 and 27.
