Chinese tea-picking opera performance staged in Frankfurt, Germany

An art troupe from Nanchang County of southern China's Jiangxi Province, staged tea-picking opera performance Friday evening in Frankfurt, Germany.
The tea-picking opera, one of Chinese traditional operas, originally derived from the tea-growing regions in Jiangxi Province where the tea pickers would sing lengthy songs to each other while undertaking the monotonous task of tea-picking.
These folk songs were gradually adopted by performing troupes of singers and eventually became known as tea-picking operas.
The performance, featuring eight famous selections of Chinese traditional operas like The Butterfly Lovers, as well as Chinese traditional dramatic art Bian Lian, or Face-Changing, won warm applause from around 500 audience.
"The tea-picking opera has a history of more than 300 years and has been widely spread in many areas of Jiangxi," said Wang Zhonghua, an official of Nanchang County government.
A new China-Europe freight train route, which links Nanchang and Moscow, Russia, was launched in April 2018. "Since then, I'm always thinking about the idea of 'culture train' linking China and Europe," Wang told Xinhua.
After Frankfurt, the troupe will perform in the Netherlands next Monday.
