The Philadelphia Orchestra finished its tour of China Tuesday in Shanghai.

The famed U.S. orchestra has held concerts in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, along with coaching sessions in Chinese colleges from May 16-28.

"The musicians of the Philadelphia Orchestra and I are delighted to return to the concert halls of China, and to continue our tradition of pursuing deeper engagement throughout our travels," said Yannick Nézet-Séguin, music director of the orchestra.

"This innovative and meaningful model of cultural exchange is a beautiful example of our special relationship with China and a powerful reminder of how music connects us all."

The orchestra performed classic works of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and other famous composers, as well as that of Chinese composer Tan Dun, titled "The Deer of Nine Colors," during the tour.

Founded in 1900, the Philadelphia Orchestra was the first U.S. orchestra to make a China tour after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Since then, it has traveled to China frequently, representing a bridge for cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges.
