The China Association of Performing Arts will host a special exhibition unit of Chinese theatrical works during this year's Festival d'Avignon in France.

The exhibition will present the audience with five Chinese theatrical works, including the drama "Teahouse," directed by acclaimed Chinese drama director Meng Jinghui, and Kunqu Opera "Six Records of a Floating Life," presented by Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre, among others.

"Teahouse," based on a masterpiece of Chinese dramatist Lao She, was also invited to be staged as one of the festival's core artistic programs. This is the first time for a contemporary Chinese theatrical work to be staged at the event.

According to an official of the association, more than 10 Chinese theatrical works will be staged during the festival which begins on July 4.

The Festival d'Avignon, created in 1947 by French drama director Jean Vilar, is one of the most important contemporary performing arts events in the world.

Since their first attendance at the festival in 2011, groups of Chinese performing artists have presented audiences with more than 20 contemporary theatrical works as of 2018.
