"Spiderman: Far from Home," the latest installment of the acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe, continued to lead the Chinese mainland box office on Tuesday.

On the fifth day since it hit big screens in China, the sequel to the 2017 "Spiderman: Homecoming" raked in about 65.04 million yuan (about 9.49 million U.S. dollars) in ticket sales, accounting for around 66 percent of the total Chinese mainland box office revenue of the day.

Ranking second is the Oscar-winning Japanese animated film "Spirited Away," which was released on June 21 on the mainland. The celebrated work of Japanese animation guru Hayao Miyazaki grossed 10.82 million yuan, with its total box office adding up to 401 million yuan, less than half of the new Spiderman film.

Hong Kong Film Awards winner Fruit Chan's latest film "Invincible Dragon" took third place on its opening day, garnering 10.08 million yuan in box office revenue.

It was followed by the fourth installment of Pixar's trademark "Toy Story" series, which pocketed about 3.87 million yuan.
