Australian audiences will have the chance to see Yang Liping's celebrated new show, Rite of Spring, when the Chinese superstar choreographer and dancer returns to the Brisbane Festival in the State of Queensland.

Organisers revealed on Thursday that following the success of Yang's previous work, Under Siege, at 2017's Brisbane Festival, Aussies would once again be treated to her unique blend of Chinese aesthetics and modern expression when this year's festival takes place in September.

Rite of Spring, which premiered in Shanghai last year, reinvents Igor Stravinsky's classic score by telling a traditional Chinese story with the addition of Tibetan classical music.

"Chinese contemporary dance tends to carry Western influences but no Chinese cultural meaning," Yang said.

"I want to do more than just dance in a contemporary way; I want to fill the movement with traditional culture and art to make it more solid, more relevant."

Brisbane Festival Artistic Director David Berthold told Xinhua that having attended the world premier of Rite of Spring in Shanghai, he is certain the show will be a great hit with audiences in Australia.

"Even though Yang Liping is a superstar in China, she is not widely known in Australia," Berthold said.

"I want people to see what a fine artist Yang Liping is and how exciting her dance is -- I know that they will take away memories that will last forever."

Rite of Spring will play for four nights at the Brisbane Festival from Sept. 25 to 28.
