A photo exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic ties was held in New York City's borough of Queens on Saturday.

Some 60 pictures were displayed to show the memorable moments of the relationship during the past four decades, such as a "Santa Clause" shaking hands with a Chinese soldier on the Great Wall in 1988, and Chinese and U.S. spectators saying goodbye outside the venue of 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

"Today's celebration is just another testament that a sound China-U.S. relationship is the shared aspiration of people in both countries," said Chinese Consul General in New York, Huang Ping, at the reception for the exhibition.

Speaking to some 200 people from the Chinese and some other ethnic communities of New York, the diplomat called on them to leverage their strength in enhancing mutual understanding and benefits between the two countries, because "a sound China-U.S. relations will be a critical basis to build your personal success, family and business fortunes, and group identity and dignity."

Furthermore, a healthy and productive China-U.S. relationship is the key to global peace and prosperity, he added.

The exhibition was organized by the New York Association for the Peaceful Unification of China and supported by the Chinese-Jewish Conversation at Yeshiva University.
