A total of 12 film masterpieces from Hong Kong will be featured at the Broadway Cinematheque MOMA in Beijing from Thursday to Aug. 4.

The eighth Hong Kong Thematic Film Festival was presented by the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Beijing and Broadway Cinematheque, according to a press release.

The films included the opening film "Still Human," "Little Cheung," "The New One-Armed Swordsman," "Just Heroes," and "Chinese Odyssey 2002."

This year's event features the theme of the long-standing master-apprentice relationship in Hong Kong's film industry.

The master-apprentice model has been a characteristic of the Hong Kong film industry through which Hong Kong filmmakers' passion and valuable experience can be passed on from one generation to another, said Pamela Lam, the acting director of the HKSAR Beijing Office, at the opening ceremony on Thursday evening.

Lam also called on the industry to grasp the opportunities brought about by the central government's new measures to facilitate the entry of Hong Kong films and film practitioners into the mainland market and to further the development of the film industries in the two places.

After the Beijing leg, the films will be screened in 15 other mainland cities including Jinan, Tianjin, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Shanghai until the end of December.
