The Chinese version of the Christmas classic ballet "The Nutcracker" will be adapted into a movie with the help of 3D filming technology, said the producers Wednesday.
The film will be shot in a way that mixes stage dancing performances with real settings using special effect technologies, said Feng Ying, head of the National Ballet of China (NBC), one of the producers of the screen adaptation.
In the Chinese version of "The Nutcracker," an NBC production, the setting is changed to a residence in a Beijing hutong, or alleyway, on the eve of the Spring Festival. Chinese folk dances are also integrated into the ballet version.
The ballet has also captivated audiences in France, Russia, Austria and Singapore since its debut, Feng said.
"Hopefully, the art of ballet and Chinese culture will reach a greater audience across the world via the 3D film and platforms like the Internet," she said.
The film will cast the best dancers of the NBC and is expected to hit screens at the end of this year.
