Shanghai police have nabbed 25 suspects over a case of fake anime toys production and sales involving nearly 300 million yuan (42 million U.S. dollars).

In June, police in the Huangpu district received a tip-off and found anime toys sold in many shops in the district were roughly made, including brands such as BANDAI, Megahouse and Nintendo, which were confirmed as inferior counterfeit products.

On Aug. 8, police captured the suspects in the cities of Guangzhou and Dongguan, seizing more than 1 million fake anime toys and over 1,200 molds, as well as a number of manufacturing tools and vehicles.

Further investigation is underway.

Earlier this month, representatives from the Japanese company BANDAI sent a limited edition anime toy and a plaque of thanks to the Huangpu branch of Shanghai public security bureau.
