The 22.1-meter-tall sculpture is made from copper plates and the entire production and selection process lasted 9 years. In the end, Ren Jun, the internationally renowned sculptor from Xi'an, edged out other international competitors with his work "The Pace of the Qin People."

Ren said the sculpture is meant to reflect the brilliant civilizations of the Qin and Han dynasties as well as Xi'an's rich cultural resources and influence as the eastern terminus of the ancient Silk Road.

According to him, the sculpture adopts a magnificent style to symbolize the enduring and vibrant quality of the Qin and Han civilizations and through his sculpture, Ren hopes to inject a contemporary humanism into Shaanxi, the birthplace of Chinese civilization.
