The organizing committee of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) and the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government held a joint press conference Thursday, unveiling details on the upcoming film festival which will run from Aug. 22 to 29.

The 10th BJIFF has positioned itself as a "cloud-based film festival," featuring both online and offline events to showcase innovation and tradition. The 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival will also be incorporated with the BJIFF for the first time to add more youth interest. During the press conference it was revealed that actor Wu Jing will be the ambassador of this year's festival.

The launch ceremony for this year's BJIFF will be prerecorded and shown online. A special program exploring filmmakers' creativity and perseverance will also be screened to show their strong confidence in the recovery and the next boom of the film industry. Those taking part in the program include several well-known filmmakers and performers such as Xie Fei, Zhang Yimou, Jia Zhangke and Tang Guoqiang.

The festival's "Beijing Screenings" section has long been a firm favorite of movie lovers. This year, over 300 films will be screened via four platforms: online, TV, movie theaters and outdoors.

Going online is an unprecedented move for a Chinese film festival, with around 50 new domestic and foreign films to be streamed online simultaneously. In total, around 250 films will be available on video site iQiyi, the festival's exclusive online screening partner.

The 10th BJIFF will also be broadcasting films on TV this year - the first time a Chinese film festival has joined hands with the small screen. A total of 20 movies will be shown on three channels: Beijing Satellite TV Channel, Beijing Movie Channel and Youth Channel.

Another highlight of the BJIFF this year is outdoor screenings, with 24 classic and new films from around the world to be shown in open-air venues. In addition, 500 charity screenings of around 30 films will be shown in 16 communities across the city's Huairou district.

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the BJIFF, the organizing committee also arranged 10 special forums featuring keynote speeches by 80 industry leaders, well-known filmmakers, experts and scholars.
