China's box office for January 2021 had topped 3 billion yuan (about 468 million U.S. dollars) as of Tuesday, a figure higher than that for the same period in the previous two years.

The market's earnings from Jan. 1 to 26 amounted to 3.02 billion yuan, showed figures compiled by the China Movie Data Information Network.

The top earner, family drama "A Little Red Flower," contributed 35 percent of the market's box office for the period.

Released on New Year's Eve, the Chinese movie has dominated the weekly box office for four consecutive weeks, with revenue totaling about 1.3 billion yuan.

Romantic comedy "Warm Hug" and crime thriller "Shock Wave 2," both domestic productions, accounted for around 20 percent and 18 percent of the box office total from Jan. 1 to 26, respectively.

China's 2020 box office came in at 20.4 billion yuan, and the top 10 earners were all domestic productions, official figures showed.
