Editor's notes: Now that the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday is over, we are looking forward to the upcoming International Women's Day with a rich variety of cultural and artistic events. Here are four events you won't want to miss this week.


1. Chinese ballet: "Red Detatchment of Women"

This dance drama tells the story of a maid by the name of Qionghua, who escapes from the home of a feudal landlord on China's Hainan Island in the 1930s. With the help of Hong Changqing, the Party representative of a red detachment of women, and other comrades, Qionghua gradually transforms herself into a determined revolutionary soldier.


Dates: March 6-9 (19:30)

Venue: Tianqiao Theatre, Beijing



2. Modern acrobatics show: "The Butterfly Lovers"

"The Butterfly Lovers" is a large-scale contemporary acrobatics show recently created by Guangzhou Acrobatic Art Theater, and following on from its Splendor Award-winning shows "Journey to the West" and "State of Divinity."


The show tells a romantic love story through the use of multiple artistic mediums including acrobatics, dance and drama, and utilizes modern techniques to reimagine this classic Chinese tale.


Dates: March 5-6 (19:30)

Venue: Guangzhou Opera House, Guangzhou



3. Art exhibition: "ECO·BOX"

Combining an exhibition plus market, the "ECO·BOX" art exhibition focuses on the theme of environmental protection, with 13 artists from around the world invited to create works from waste materials. The exhibition aims to guide the public to pay attention to nature and the environment, as well as encourage them to live fashionable, yet eco-friendly lives. 


"ECO·BOX" advocates sustainable art activities that are healthy, organic and low-carbon, which bring benefits to people's lives, and make public welfare as common as breathing.


Dates: March 1-April 2 

Venue: Raycom Infotech Park, Beijing



4. Disney movie: "Raya and the Last Dragon"

"Raya and the Last Dragon" tells the story of a lone warrior, Raya, who must track down the legendary last dragon to stop an evil force that has returned after 500 years to threaten her home world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons once lived together in harmony. 


This new animated film, directed by Academy Award winning director Don Hall and Carlos Lopez Estrada, is the first Disney film to have a Southeast Asian-inspired setting. 


Release Date: March 5

Venue: Movie theaters nationwide
