Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow will be back on screen, with Aussie director Cate Shortland's film to be released on July 9.

In the Marvel studios' action-packed spy thriller, the black widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.

Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Romanoff must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationship left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Shortland is best-known for her acclaimed debut Somersault, starring Abbie Cornish and Sam Worthington, which won a record 13 awards in 13 categories at 2004's Australian Film Institute Awards.

She posted on her social media Instagram, saying Black Widow will come back this week.
