A series of events celebrating the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, both online and offline, kicked off here Friday in the Mediterranean island country of Malta.

The events, which include photo and artwork exhibitions, themed concerts, and live-streamed ballet performances, will last until Oct. 6, bringing Chinese culture closer to the Maltese people during the festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival symbolizing family reunion. It falls on Sept. 21 this year, which coincidentally is the Independence Day in Malta.

"Thanks to rich digital resources provided by Chinese related departments, we could provide attractive and varied activities for Maltese audiences during the period of celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival," said Yang Xiaolong, director of the China Cultural Center in Malta.

The Center has also joined hands with a number of Maltese organizations to enrich online and offline activities for the festival, Yang said.

In cooperation with the Valletta Cultural Agency, the Center will hold an interactive exhibition reflecting the scenery of the Chinese capital Beijing and Malta's Valletta on Sept. 22.

The Center will also work with the Arts Council Malta, the Pjazza Teatru Rjal -- an open-air theater in Valletta, and the Valletta Local Council to hold an interactive dialogue on Chinese culture. Delegates from the cultural and arts circles of Malta will be invited to join the Oct. 2 event.
