The 2022 edition of Germany's Leipzig Book Fair has been canceled for the third year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers said on Wednesday.
"The desire for a personal meeting at Leipzig Book Fair was huge," a statement said. "But numerous cancellations of exhibitors within the past few days led to the fact that the expected quality and breadth of content of such a large public fair is no longer guaranteed."
The fair was originally scheduled to be held between March 17 and March 20. Due to the short lead time, the fair's program will not be featured online this year, according to their statement.
Selected award ceremonies, such as the Leipzig Book Award for European Understanding and the Leipzig Book Fair Prize, however, will still take place and will be streamed online.
