Wang Jie: 'Silent Mountains, Good Night' (Department of Painting)

Ink landscapes are firmly rooted in Chinese tradition, while for Wang Jie, they also help to understand nature figuratively. Wang, a postgraduate at AADTHU, has strived to explore ink and wash paintings and draw nourishment from the tradition, combining it with his own perception of reality and nature. His aesthetic and the mood he was in at the moment of creation are also palpable in the works.

"In my paintings, I strive to create a free and mysterious and boundless world, which can be admired and toured, and has its own life and creation," Wang said.

Wang admitted that he does not prepare for his paintings, opting instead for his subconscious to guide him, as well as improvisational and accidental inspirations. He also adds different styles and light and shadow elements to his work for innovation and integration into his journey of pursuing the modernization of traditional Chinese ink and wash painting.

AADTHU Professor Chen Hui, Wang's supervisor, praised the richness and superb presentation of his art. "In the form of pure ink and wash art, his work shows the majestic and green mountains, rivers, hills and ravines, overlapping mountains and illusions, with magnificent visual effect and artistic conception. At the same time, he combines elements of his own life experience and artistic perception in his work, exploring the reconstruction consciousness of traditional aesthetic spirit, as well as learning, inheriting, and developing the art of traditional Chinese painting from classics of national art."
