India won its first-ever Golden Globe award on Wednesday for the Telugu action film RRR's catchy musical number, Naatu Naatu.

Naatu Naatu was awarded the best original song.

S.S. Rajamouli's blockbuster was nominated for two categories, best original song and best picture-non English.

However, it lost the best picture award in a foreign language to Santiago Mitre's historical drama Argentina, 1985.

Indians, especially people associated with cinema, expressed their joy at the news.

Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman called the film's win a "paradigm shift".

"Incredible. Paradigm shift. Congrats Keeravani Garu from all Indians and your fans! Congrats S.S. Rajamouli, Garu and the whole RRR team!" Rahman tweeted.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan also took to the social media writing that he "woke up and started dancing to Naatu Naatu" to celebrate the news.

RRR, which stands for Rise, Roar, Revolt, is an action thriller about two revolutionaries who fight against British rule in India. The film is written and directed by Rajamouli.

The film turned out to be a huge box-office hit, not just domestically but also in foreign countries.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described winning of the Golden Globe as a very special accomplishment and extended compliments to people associated with the film.

"This prestigious honor has made every Indian very proud," Modi wrote on Twitter.
