Exports Surge in N.China Port City

Tianjin, a north China port city, chalked up US$27.42 billion worth of exports last year, a year-on-year rise of 31.33 percent.

 

Tianjin ranked 8th among Chinese provinces and municipalities in terms of 2005 export volumes, according to figures from Tianjin Customs.

 

Tianjin exported US$12.47 billion worth of high-tech products last year, up 24.47 percent on the previous year. In value, Tianjin's high-tech exports ranked fourth in China following Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces and Shanghai Municipality.

 

State-owned enterprises in the city exported US$3.38 billion worth of goods last year, a year-on-year rise of 23.78 percent. The city's private businesses exported to the value of US$1.46 billion last year, 2.36 times the figure for the previous year.

 

Tianjin's exports to the European Union totaled US$5.36 billion in 2005, a year-on-year rise of 49.4 percent; the city's exports to Japan were US$2.849 billion last year, up 19.7 percent on the previous year; and its exports to Russia were US$550 million, 6.02 times the 2004 figure.
