The 11th Anniversary World Free Zone Convention (WFZC) will be held in the state-level Pudong New Area in Shanghai Municipality in November, an authority with the WFZC said Friday.

The 2011 WFZC will be held from Nov. 8 to 11 with the theme focusing on the functional creativity of free trade zones, said Graham Mather, chairman of the WFZC.

This year's convention aims to facilitate the healthy development of free trade zones and improve the convenience of global economic and trade. It will be first international free trade zone convention held in China.

"To hold the convention in Shanghai is based on the good prospects of free trade zones in China. Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone topped the 700 zones around the world by a list conducted by the FDI, a flagship magazine affiliated to the Financial Times," Mather said.

Since its founding in 2001, the London-based WFZC has already held 10 sessions of conventions around the world to facilitate global cooperation and discussion on free trade zone development.
